Newcastle
midfielder Joey Barton banned 12 games, fined
FA has handed down a 12-game ban and
25,000 fine to Newcastle midfielder Joey Barton for the
assault against former Manchester City team-mate
Ousmane Dabo. Six of the 12 games are suspended until the
end of the 2009-10 season. The four-man FA panel also ruled
that the extra six games will be added if the football
player is found guilty of a similar offence in the future.
Barton has two week to appeal the verdict. The attack left
Dabo, now of Lazio, with several cuts and bruises as well as
a suspected detached retina. The France midfielder said the
attack was so bad that it had left him "looking like the
elephant man".
