Navarro gets seven-month ban
David Navarro got a seven-month ban for his role in the brawl in Italy. Valencia was playing Inter Milan
in their second leg of the Champions League when a fight broke off,
after the Valencia's midfielder Marchena appeared to kick out at
Burdisso, with whom he exchanged some words beforehand. Navarro, who was
a substitute in the game, ran out on the field and punched Burdisso,
breaking his nose. Navarro ran after the punch, which made Inter Milan's
coach Roberto Mancini to label him as "coward" in a later interview
about the incident.
Uefa handed the following
sentences:
- Valencia:
- David Navarro - seven months
- Carlos Marchena - four games
- Inter:
- Nicolas Burdisso - six games
- Maicon - six games
- Ivan Cordoba - three games
- Julio Cruz - two games
- Both clubs were fined £106,000
Valencia, which moved ahead in the
Champions League after finishing 0-0 with Inter Milan, will be appealing
the ruling.
